A tune-up should suit your vehicle. The right work depends on its engine, mileage, condition and manufacturer’s service schedule.
What might your tune-up involve?
Depending on your vehicle and what is due, recommended work may include:
- Spark plug inspection or replacement on applicable engines
- Engine air filter inspection or replacement
- Assessment of ignition components where relevant
- Checks related to starting or engine-running concerns
- Review of other scheduled maintenance items
Not every vehicle needs every item at each visit. We’ll discuss the recommended work and estimate before you approve it.
When should you book?
Use your owner’s manual and service history to check what maintenance is due. If you’re unsure, tell us your vehicle’s make, model, year and approximate mileage.
Also mention changes such as:
- Hard starting or rough idling
- Hesitation or reduced engine performance
- A noticeable change in fuel consumption
- An illuminated check engine light
These symptoms do not automatically mean a tune-up will solve the problem. Diagnostic testing may be needed first.
Maintenance or diagnostics?
Scheduled maintenance addresses items due for service. Diagnostics investigates a particular fault or symptom. Sometimes your vehicle needs both.
If your check engine light is on, mention it when booking rather than assuming new spark plugs or filters will fix it.
